eatonweb. it's good to be a heathen.

well the portal sale is final. my new domain is now eatonweb.net, although eatonweb.com still works for the time being. having seen what ahmed has done with the site i'm very glad i made the decision to pass it off. it was sorely neglected and needed some tlc which ahmed is definitely providing. his new version of the portal is available for testing at dir.blogflux.com. go check it out and play with it, he could use some help ironing out the bugs. 03:26 pm

so i've decided to sell the portal. and someone's actually decided to buy it from me. unfortunately, this means that i'm also selling the eatonweb.com domain. within a day or two everything from eatonweb (except the portal) will be moved over to eatonweb.net. i'll still get mail forwarded from brig@eatonweb.com but i'll be using .net from now on and gradually phase out .com. hopefully, it'll cut back on the spam. anyway, i think the portal is in good hands and will get much more attention than i've been able to give it lately. 02:19 pm

i hadn't realized google had added search capability. so i've finally replaced the pretty useless search engine i had on the portal. i also hadn't realized that they'd removed the "personal site" restriction from their tos, so now that i'm never updating, i can finally put ads on my weblog. ironic. 02:37 pm

i'm always amazed by how short-term peoples' memories are, then again, come to think of it, it has been 5 years. so i guess it's a little more understandable. there have been at least 3 companies in california that fired people for writing a weblog. i had the dubious honor of being the first person to be fired for writing a weblog (the now defunct beyond.com back in june of 1999). needless to say, it still sucks and i feel for troutgirl. 02:20 pm

well, i did promise to be back to explain, it's just taken much longer than i expected. and even now i'm not fully recovered. from what you ask? pregnancy. i've had an utterly miserable 8 weeks and i strongly discourage anyone who's considering such a thing. morning sickness is utter hell. 10:44 am

06.21.04

yes, i know i've basically checked out for the last month, but really there's a good reason for it. i just don't want to talk about it yet. suffice it to say that as soon as i stop lying on the couch all day trying to decide whether to hurl, i'll be back with lots to talk about. 11:45 am

bandwidth costs are catching up to me *again*, so i've decide to implement hotlink blocking on both eatonweb and the portal. lucky for many, i opted against doing what genehack did, although it was quite tempting. please, if you'd like to use images from my site, right-click on them, save them to your own server and pay for their usage yourself. 11:22 am

I ran across Bloglines tonight, something new (or not so new) i'd never heard of before. a search uncovered that i'm being used for a blogging course. ironically tho, the person seems to think that Jason is the author. you'd think that after doing this for 5 years i'd get some recognition. and for the record, the site is done using b2 not typepad. 10:25 pm

i noticed when i got back from vegas last week that it had been an awful long time since i'd posted anything but i'd managed to push that out of my mind until andrea emailed me asking if i was still alive. which of course prompted all sorts of guilt. i'm here, life is relatively good and i just haven't felt like writing about my boring life in almost 2 months. then again, i just realized today that i'm 3 weeks late so things may suddenly become much less boring. 03:53 pm

CORRECTED: Job Growth Anemic in February

"Some economists said the relative dearth of hiring more than 27 months into an economic recovery was unprecedented."
this just begs the question, did the economy *really* start to recover 27 months ago? maybe we should be looking around for job creation- related program activities? or economic boom-related program activities? 11:46 am

Putting Bias in the Constitution 04:50 pm

We should also conduct this difficult debate in a matter worthy of our country, without bitterness or anger.
You know, I wasn't angry until after I read the Transcript of Bush's statement. but I've about had it up to here with all this crap. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for discrimination to be happening in this country today. Equal rights means exactly that: "Having the same privileges, status, or rights". It doesn't mean sort of equal, or equal but separate, or equal as long as we don't talk about it. let's just call a spade a spade. you want to change The Constitution so that it's ok to discriminate against gay people. it has nothing to do with children (you know gay people have children too). it has nothing to do with the bible or love or jesus. it has everything to do with your hate-filled, biased viewpoint of the world. you hate people who are different to you and want to deny their equality any way that you can. just suck it up and get over it. stop making us listen to your shitty lies and excuses and stop trying to change the thing that makes this country great to reflect them. The only constitutional amendment that i want to see is one granting gays the equal rights that they deserve. you know, those ones already granted to them but everybody seems to forget they have... 03:41 pm

now this is the kind of friendship classification i'd expect. or at least would make sense to me. 03:39 pm

i've been fighting a horrible cold for the last few days. thanks to the darling little rugrats that we babysat on sunday. i've also been seeing a chiropractor for the last month to try and fix some chronic back pain. despite appearances, i'm actually trying to stay off the computer because of it. thankfully, it seems to be working. 03:27 pm

being such an unsociable hermit, i sometimes have a lot of trouble with systems like orkut or friendster. i mean, in this day and age, how exactly do you define friend? especially when weblogs have pre-empted regular conversation. why pick up the phone/email/im when you can easily catch up with someone by reading their weblog?

although, i guess i shouldn't worry too much, i'm much too lazy to actually add everyone anyway. 03:18 pm
